5 Reasons to Visit Minneapolis

If you’re looking for a great vacation spot check out Minneapolis, Minnesota. Spread across the banks of the Mississippi River, the city features great bike paths, museums, music, and more. Let’s explore Minneapolis and see what it offers.

Arts and Culture

Stroll among the city’s many galleries or stop by the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. With free admission every day, spreading your visit over a couple of days gives lots of time for viewing. The Outdoor Sculpture Garden, part of the Walker Art Center, is free all the time too. It features the famous Spoonbridge and Cherry sculpture among its 11 acres of exhibits. The Walker Art Center indoor part offers free admission Thursday evenings and the first Saturday of every month.

Not far from downtown, check out the Mill City Museum, once the home of the world’s largest flour mill. While there, sample fresh-baked bread and don’t miss the ninth-floor observatory offering a gorgeous view of St. Anthony Falls and the mighty Mississippi River.

Concerts and Entertainment

Among the many attractions in Minneapolis, the Guthrie Theater sits along the banks of the Mississippi and offers world-class shows along with classes, workshops, and other activities. Even if you don’t see a play, check out the theater’s cool design.

If you prefer live music, try the old Greyhound Bus terminal at First Avenue and 7th Street. See the next big act, as many famous bands got their start here. The building itself is an Art Deco design covered in 531 stars, representing past performers.

Mall of America

Don’t miss the Mall of America, even if shopping isn’t your thing. Clothes at the mall come tax-free to help save a few dollars. The huge building also features an aquarium, indoor roller coaster, mini-golf course, and the Nickelodeon Universe Studio. Don’t skip the four-story Lego store either. And after a long day shopping, return to one of the many nearby hotels for a nice dip in an indoor pool.

Lakes and Bike Trails

Minneapolis features dozens of bike trails, many curving around the fabulous lakes in the city. Outdoor activities abound, from water skiing, swimming, and boating in the summer to ice fishing and hockey on frozen water in the winter. And the city is famous for its many bike trails. This is a wonderful place for bikers, joggers, or just a casual stroll with the family, including pet-friendly areas.

Other Areas

Uptown, near the lakes in the southwest part of the city, shows off the area’s diversity through funky boutiques, art galleries, bars, and restaurants. From Thai food to pizza, there’s a spot for everyone to enjoy. Plus, Minneapolis offers pro sports from football, baseball, and basketball to hockey. Baseball’s Twins call the new Target Field home, which has been dubbed the best stadium in North America by ESPN.
